A quick reference guide is the Dragnet version of a user manual—Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts. You will find similar material between the two, but the quick reference dispenses with explanation in favor of presentation. From a technical perspective, I use landscape for quick references which makes it easier to flow instructions around screenshots and present information side-by-side.
